Little Hunnys

Do you ever watch the cake boss, cupcake war, and all those other shows where they showcase beautiful, great looking cakes and cupcakes?  It is almost hard to imagine cutting through them, eating them , just thinking how many hours they spent designing, decorating those babies!  We all watched them, we all got inspired and maybe most if not all actually went out and bought gadgets thinking I can do that!

Then you actually went out bought and realized, they are not cheap.  Looking at the price tag bakeshops sell them for, hey it's still worth it.  Then you went and designed it...total fail LOL.  For those very talented and gifted, it works, for some, oh well it just doesn't.  We always look for that one special place or person who can actually make the best cake, does not cost your arms and legs and tastes amazing!

I attended this birthday one summer, to capture him smashing the cake.  This is a Thomas the train themed birthday party, sure was a blast.  Like always, posted them on my facebook fan page www.facebook.com/kristinewahnerphotography  and tagged the people who are there.

Shortly after these images were posted, I discovered and met the person behind the awesome cake.  Linda Caro of Little Hunnys.  From this moment, a beautiful business and friendship blossomed from a simple networking.  This is why, I always recommend networking with local vendors in your area.  But my rule of thumb is to ALWAYS respect their time, and value their ideas, and try to always work with their schedule.  It takes two to tango, respect is important.  Remember that we are all raising and supporting a family.

Little Hunnys and Kristine Wahner Photography have teamed up together to provide mutual and future clients only quality products and services.  I have only heard great reviews, Linda is very easy to work with, sweet, passionate and very talented.

I made a little Q&A with Ms. Linda herself to get to know her more for you readers out there.  I know you are all dying to meet her!

Kristine:What made you start the business?

Linda: I had been decorating cakes for my family and when we would have parties people would tell me to start a business. After hearing it so much, I finally decided to do it.

Kristine:What or who is/are your inspiration/s?

Linda: My kids are really my inspiration for doing cakes. To see how happy they are when they see the cake I have created for them, it's all worth it. They can tell me exactly what they want on their cake, no matter how crazy, and I will create it for them. I love the fact that I am able to do this for my children.

Kristine:How did you learn baking?

Linda: I learned the basics of baking from my Mom when I was younger. Once I was on my own I would learn by trial and error.

Kristine:Aside from baking, what other things do you love to make or do?

Linda: side from baking, I love to cook. Anything and everything. I love to try out new recipes. I also love scrapbooking. It's time consuming but it's worth it because you look back and see the beautiful work you did surrounding your memories.

Kristine: Have you had any challenges and how do you deal with it?

Linda: I have had several challenges in the beginning with using fondant. I make my own marshmallow fondant for every cake that I make. It is very time consuming and sometimes even though the recipe is the same, the outcome would be different. Now that I have been making it and decorating with it for so long, I know how to use it more effectively. I know what to do and what not to do so that I get the same results every time. And if it doesn't work properly, I take a deep breath in, and start all over.

Kristine: Any advice for aspiring bakers out there?

Linda: My advice is to keep going, and to not give up. Make sure to measure ingredients and write down recipes when you try them out. Keeping sure to make notes so that you can adjust your recipe if need be.

Thank you for your time responding to all these questions Linda!  Linda is a wife and great mom to 3 of her kids.  Busy, busy mom!

Below are the images of some of her amazing cakes.  These are provided by Linda herself.

My Visit to Shad

Cancer is so limited...
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.

Some survive it, some don't, for me they are all heroes and angels. A fight against cancer is nothing like any other battle. My own mother is a cancer survivor, i have friends and family members who have lost a loved one because of it. We all say cancer sucks!

Let's move on to my client Shad who I recently visited. I met his family back in November 2012 for a Holiday Family Portrait. I recall his mom Jessica telling me about Shad being sick and not doing well with trips recently. They got to the venue to do our shoot a little early to give Shad a little elbow room for recovery from the trip. They drove about 1 hour or so to get to our beautiful beach session.

All went well and we had a great time. I once again captured a very loving family behind my camera (the most fulfilling part of my job).
One of the favorite shots from their session and what was used for their Holiday Card

Two weeks had gone and I received a letter from a lady named Dianne. So here it goes:

Kristine,

My name is Dianne Johnson and I met you recently when you took family photos of my daughter Jessica, her husband, Trevor and their son, Shad. Perhaps you recall that Jessica told you that Shad had not been feeling well for the few days prior to the photo shoot. Well, after the shoot he rapidly got worse and on this past Thursday Jessica took him to the emergency room. There they discovered that he had several tumors, one in his pelvic area and one on his spine. He had to undergo emergency surgery to remove the tumor on his spine because it was seriously affecting his mobility. He came through the surgery well, for which we are grateful, but for the time being is bed ridden. He has a very long road of chemotherapy and radiation ahead of him along with several other problems and more surgeries. We have a lot of faith and support from family and friends and we are optimistically hopeful, but no one really knows what the future holds for their little family.

Jessica has mentioned to me how grateful she is that she had their family pictures taken when she did. I just wanted to let you know how thankful we all are that you were willing to use your talent to capture the love that this family has for each other so beautifully. The photos are truly wonderful and mean so much more to us now than they did a week ago. Never again will this family be as innocent and carefree as you captured them being on the beach such a short time ago. Thank you for helping us preserve a moment that has quickly fled. We hope that you will continue to use your gift to bless the lives of other families as you have blessed ours.

Thanks again,
Dianne

This letter moved me, i cried the whole night thinking about that boy, he is too young, it is not fair! I reached out to his family but gave it sometime for it is a difficult time and a hard pill to swallow.

I moved on with my life, with my business, but not a single day Shad never crossed my mind. How is he? What is he doing now? I hope they let me know.

I e-mailed twice, i never got a response, but I know, i am just a photographer, I should not push it that hard. Then again, the 1 hour you spend with them, editing, and them letting me know should mean something right?

Make it short and sweet, Ms. Jessica finally reached out again and giving me a link to her personal blog with all updates and details about Shad. It felt like a reunion happening to me.

I have been wanting to see Shad, Jessica, and Trevor. To see how they are, to tell them how much I care. I told Jessica I'd love to be a part of Shad's journey and I'd be here for them.

The doctor originally said that shad will have to undergo atleast 12 chemotherapy, he's undergone 4 and doing very well... We might not have to get up there! I'll let you go to mom's blog for update here(link)

Here's all the images of the visit. Such a joy to see such high spirit from a child battling cancer. I meet people who worry about little things and not appreciate what they have. This boy surely radiates optimism, courage, and strength.
Shad is showing me a stick he picked up from the ground.

                                                                  Playing in his slide.
Playing with mom, such a beautiful sight.
Pretending he lost an arm after playing light saber fight with mom.
                                                                       Say Cheese!
Shad loves to run, play with legos, star wars legos, eat cupcakes, pretend like he is a dinosaur and have sword fights, even light saber fights.  FYI, I lost my arms and legs fighting him LOL
                                                                                :)
                                                        Throwing the stick, so carefree!
                                                                Look at the stickers mom!
So much LOVE, and true LOVE does conquer ALL!
Please continue to pray that he wins this battle.  He is a hero to me, and he will always be!  Jessica, thank you for welcoming me, my husband and my mother into your home.  You have a very strong, wonderful child.  With your family, friends, and the Lord, we are here with you!

Here is a video I made for Shad's family.  Please grab a box of kleenex, just in case;)

Boudoir Madness just got more Fun, Say What?!

                                                                    Boudoir

The term "boudoir" may also be ascribed to a genre of photography. Boudoir photography is not generally a new concept and numerous examples including ones of Kathleen Meyers, Clara Bow, Mae West and Jean Harlow photographed in a boudoir style.
Typically shot in a photographer's studio or luxury hotel suites, it has become fashionable to create a set of sensual or sexually suggestive images of women (and occasionally men and couples) in "boudoir style". The most common manifestation of contemporary boudoir photography is to take variations of candid and posed photographs of the subject partly clothed or in lingerie. Nudity is more often implied than explicit. Commercially the genre is often (though not exclusively) derived from a market for brides to surprise their future husbands by gifting the images on or before their wedding day. Other motivations or inspiration for boudoir photography shoots include anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine's Day, weight loss regimes, maternity, other form of body change or alteration (such as breast augmentation or reduction) and for servicemen and women overseas.[2]
Boudoir photography may, in some cases, be distinguished from other photography genres such as glamour photography, fine art nude photography and erotic photography. According to research carried out in Digital Boudoir Photography (2006), John G. Blair said that the word "Boudoir" or "Boudoir portrait", was used in 1980 by Motherlode Photography Studio in California to describe a picture more elegant than "erotic portrait" or "semi nude portrait".

I call it glamour photography, I love to show classy, sexy art to my clients and have them give something to their other half.  A lot of photographers offer it, in fact, maybe all.  You just need to carefully look at their portfolio, their style, and most of the time, comfort is a big factor.

I want my boudoir photography experience to start from the moment you ask that question how does it work?

I have partnered with the best lingerie boutique in town, Deja Vu Love Boutique http://www.dejavuloveboutiquevista.com/ in Vista, CA.  I encourage you to check their boutique, not just to shop, but also for other fun exciting events they have to offer.  You may also follow them on their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/vistalb and be sure to click on notifications to get all the juicy newsfeeds!

Mother's Day, Glamour Day

What is Glamour, What is Beauty?

glam·our
/ˈglamər/
Noun
The attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing or special: "the glamour of Monte Carlo".
Beauty or charm that is sexually attractive.
Synonyms
glamor - charm - enchantment - fascination - magic

Beauty

beau·ty
/ˈbyo͞otē/
Noun
A combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, esp. the sight.
A combination of qualities that pleases the intellect or moral sense.
Synonyms
loveliness - belle - pulchritude - fairness - prettiness

What is real beauty? Do you have to be of certain shape, age to be in front of the camera? Certainly not!

Glamour Portrait is not only for models, and when we say models, we think right away, skinny. This has to change.

When I first thought of glamour Portrait and boudoir, it is for the love of art and fashion, and the idea of having fun and celebrating ourselves as a woman. Then i realized, a lot of women get conscious about a lot of things. Their shape, their size, their skin, their color, and the list just goes on and on. I want to show women that beauty is truely how you feel inside and not what the world sees it to be.

Who usually does it?  Someone who has a drastic change with their life may it be a new career change, new status, engagement, losing weight, getting married, being fabulous and forty, or simply feeling beautiful.

Kristine Wahner Photography, Make Up By Sammie, Little Hunnys and The Lucky Street Productions teamed up to pick one lucky mom to win a day of glamour with us. Hair and make-up, on location photo shoot at The Lucky Street Productions,  custom 1 dozen cupcakes from Little Hunnys and a $25 gift card from Extraordinary Desserts in San Diego CA.  The Lucky Street Productions offers cinematic quality vintage sets and props for special events, film, television and in-house photography sessions.

Welcome

WELCOME

Hi, my name is Kristine Wahner, mother of two kids and married to my bestfriend Mark. I grew up from the beautiful Philippines Islands. Coming from a struggling country, I feel blessed to have educated parents who worked hard and gave me and my siblings a path to college and the opportunity to live in the United States. Now as a US Citizen, I feel I am living the American Dream. In the Philippines we had our own family operated Photography business. Back then, we still processed in film so we used a dark room and chemicals. At that time, my motivation was not into the photography business. I was more focused on pursuing my college degree in Business Management which I achieved. We had to sell the business when the opportunity to live in the United States as permanent residents became available.

Starting fresh is never easy especially in a new country. We lived in a one bedroom apartment, shopped at thrift stores to stretch living expenses. I washed dishes for work so that I could have work experience in the United States. After that I worked for two hotels, and two banks. The banking industry had me entertained for 8 years. I was successful and was on top of my game.

Later on, I realized I was no longer happy. I looked for other career options which I also loved to do as a hobby such as catering desserts, tutu making, and photography. Having two little ones and a full-time job, I was not very lucky with my ventures except the latter. My sister also decided to start photography when her husband gave her a new DSLR. My husband,  who is very dear to me, saw what was coming and purchased one. This started the journey of our business, Sisters Photography.  We have travelled, relocated, and found ourselves drifting to the same calling. We love art, we love passion, and we want to tell stories by all the images we take.

Thank you for your time reading my first blog. I will be posting more as I travel the road of photography.

Let us tell your story!

Kristine Wahner
